Editorial Review
Heroes centres on a group of individuals who have extraordinary superhuman abilities. Rather than romanticising this discovery, it follows each of the characters as they come to terms with the danger and responsibility that come with such gifts.
The opening scene of the third season occurs four years in the future, with Claire (Hayden Panettiere) aiming a gun at the head of Peter (Milo Ventimiglia). From there, the episode switches between the present and future as the identity of Nathan's shooter is revealed, Sylar (Zachary Quinto) holds Claire hostage before launching a gruesome attack on her and Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) disobeys his father's orders with potentially dire consequences.
Much like Lost, its predecessor in the genre of convoluted drama, Heroes was initially greeted with much fanfare and acclaim only to receive a lacklustre critical response to its slower second season. If this instalment is anything to go by, the creators of Heroes are intent on winning back fans and critics alike. It's packed with so many twists and turns that it almost does a disservice to the numerous story lines which hardly get any air time; however, showing the heroes in the future certainly presents some intriguing possibilities.
Heroes returns to the Seven Network on Thursday, October 9, at 8:30pm.
