Editorial Review
Canadian pop punk singers Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley have officially filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences" in lodgement papers. The pair split up in September 2009, and Lavigne filed divorce papers in October. Lavigne and Whibley started dating in February 2004, and Whibley proposed to Lavigne in 2005 in Venice. The two got hitched a year later in a private Catholic ceremony in California, and their divorce comes after only three years of marriage. In the legal documents, Lavigne has stated that she does not wish to receive spousal support from her less successful counterpart, nor have to pay out any money herself.Whibley is the singer and guitarist for pop-punk outfit, Sum 41. His resume also boasts work with Iggy Pop, Tommy Lee, Permanent Me and The Operation M.D., as well as his ex-wife. Whibley also famously dated Hilton heiress, Paris Hilton, the year before he coupled with Lavigne. Perez Hilton speculated that he is currently seeing a 19-year-old fashion designer, model and self-proclaimed "style icon", named Hannah Beth Merjos.
Lavigne became a household name in 2002 with her debut album, Let Go, including hit singles like Complicated, Sk8r Boi and I'm With You, making her the second artist ever to get three number one hits from a debut album on the Billboard Mainstream 40 chart. The punk princess's other two albums, Under My Skin and The Best Damned Thing, also produced ridiculously successful singles like My Happy Ending and Girlfriend. The blonde singer probably regrets her tattoo of the letter 'D' inside a love-heart, but hopefully has enough money from her career to get it lasered off.
